Snowmen Names & Puffy Snow

Motor & Sensory skills targeted: All pieces of the snowmen needed were pre-cut out so that the focus was on correct placement, orienting, and glue bottle use. Our students have difficulty with not only squeezing the glue bottles, but also putting the appropriate amount of glue on. We are always saying "a little bit of glue goes a long way." The students names were also written on already for them. This activity can be made more advanced for higher level students by having them write the letters of their names on the circles, cutting out the small pieces, etc. We had this model avaliable to refer back to for a visual for the students. We focused on concepts as well as what goes on a face, how many, what are the order of letters in their name, top, bottom, etc. For the sensory skill, a combo of equal parts glue and shaving cream were pre-mixed and students provided with paint brushed to paint on "puffy snow" for the snowmen to sit on.

Communication skills targeted: Basic concepts were addressed today through following directions and placement of items to create the snowman. Concepts targeted included top, bottom, over and under. Students were also required to request desired and needed tools to complete the project. Students were also asked to receptively identify their name along with hat, bowtie, nose and eyes. Expressively, students learned the sign for snowman.
